Uploading: Supported Formats and Limits
Here’s what VideoTap accepts and the limits for each plan.
Supported File Types
Section titled “Supported File Types”- MP4 (most common, recommended)
- MOV
- M4V
- WebM
MP4 is the most reliable format. If you’re exporting from a video editor, MP4 with H.264 encoding is your safest bet. Audio-only files (MP3, WAV, etc.) aren’t supported, if you have a podcast recording, it’ll need to be in a video container before uploading.
File Size Limit
Section titled “File Size Limit”Maximum file size: 4 GB
If your video is larger than 4 GB, try compressing it or exporting at a lower bitrate from your editing software. The visual quality difference is usually minimal.
Video Duration Limits
Section titled “Video Duration Limits”Duration limits depend on your plan:
| Plan | Max Video Length |
|---|---|
| Free / Trial | 25 minutes |
| Creator | 45 minutes |
| Crew | 2 hours |
| Studio | 2 hours |
| Corporation | 2 hours |
Videos shorter than about 60 seconds won’t generate clips automatically, since there isn’t enough content to pull highlights from. Transcription and other content types still work on shorter videos.
YouTube / Vimeo URLs
Section titled “YouTube / Vimeo URLs”Paste-from-URL is no longer supported. Download the source MP4 from the platform (YouTube Studio, Vimeo Download, etc.) and upload the file directly.
Monthly Minutes
Section titled “Monthly Minutes”Each plan comes with a set number of processing minutes per month:
| Plan | Monthly Minutes |
|---|---|
| Free / Trial | 100 minutes |
| Creator | 100 minutes |
| Crew | 400 minutes |
| Studio | 1,000 minutes |
Minutes are based on your video’s duration, not processing time. A 10-minute video uses 10 minutes of your quota. Minutes reset at the start of each billing cycle.
Resolution
Section titled “Resolution”- Trial, Creator, and Crew plans: Up to 1080p
- Studio: Up to 4K
If you upload a 4K video on a 1080p plan, it will still process, but output will be capped at 1080p.
